Services and resources open to only health sciences students, staff, and faculty

Learning Technologies Lab (LTL)

LTL supports the use of technologies as it relates to academic activities in health sciences education. With a goal of building faculty capacity for effective and appropriate use of technology in educational programs, we offer self-directed learning packages, workshops, research opportunities, and extensive resources.

Computer Services Unit (CSU)

CSU provides computer and electronic communications services and support to all Faculty of Health Sciences sites and campuses. The service catalogue includes web development and application support, desktop computing, educational and collaboration technologies, hosting services, project management, network and communications, security and risk management, and faculty and enterprise systems.

Health Sciences Library (HSL)

HSL is a learning and collaboration space with a focus on assistance in education, research, and information access. They have a number of searching databases workshops, research consultations, and guides and tutorials that that introduce important concepts, recommend relevant research tools, and teach you how to use library resources.

Central Campus Supports

Services and resources open to all students, staff, and faculty

Lewis & Ruth Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship

The Sherman Centre’s core programming includes a graduate residency, an invited speaker series, an undergraduate course, and four annual workshop series. Almost all of their events are free and open to the public, with many past workshops available as online learning modules. They also offer free consultations. Their team can connect you with resources, teach you to use digital tools and software, coordinate a classroom visit, negotiate a formal collaboration, and provide access to technology including advanced workstations and 3D printers.

The Sherman Centre is located on the first floor of Mills Library at McMaster University. For researchers working on projects in the Centre, it is open and available whenever Mills Library is open.

Lyons New Media Center (LNMC)

LNMC is a vibrant multimedia space and focuses the creation and use of modern and classic media in teaching, learning, and research at McMaster University. Lyons offers a special collection of media resources that facilitates teaching and learning, including cameras, filming equipment, recording booths, and high-end media editing computers. The zen zone, available for relaxing and de-stressing, also offers various quiet activities including puzzles, knitting kits, and cards.

Lyons is located on the 4th floor of Mills Library. Taking either elevator #3 or #4 will get you to the lobby directly outside our entrance.

MacPherson

MacPherson offers a wide variety of programs, workshops, services and supports to all members of the McMaster community to cultivate an environment where learning deeply matters, and teaching is valued and recognized.

  • Support both undergraduate and graduate students through learning opportunities, partnerships, and teaching and learning scholarship
  • Partner with educators and staff to assist in skill development and to create networking opportunities with other educators and learners within the McMaster community
  • Work closely with Chairs, Directors and Deans in preparation for IQAP program reviews and to support retreats and work shops that build better learning experiences for students

The MacPherson Institute is located on the 5th floor of the Mills Library.

University Technology Services (UTS)

UTS provides IT support for students, staff, and educators. The service catalogue includes assistance with accounts and passwords, administrative systems, communication, collaboration and storage, computers, printers, and software, infrastructure, IT professional services, security, and teaching and learning.

Thode Makerspace

Located on the lower level of Thode Library, the Makerspace is an experiential learning space where the McMaster community can gather for hands-on learning using our equipment and tools, and bring their creativity to life. The space provides an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students in all faculties to gather to create, invent and learn. Use of the Makerspace is governed by the code of conduct.
